2012 Roy E. Sommer Golf Scramble June 25 at Tan Tara Golf Club
Roy was NCCC’s first Athletic Director serving from 1963-1979. Roy was responsible for the growth and success of the athletic program in its formative years. As coach, Roy posted a 145-69 record in eight seasons at the helm of the men’s basketball team. He led the team to multiple conference crowns and a ninth-place finish in the nationals. In bowling, Roy guided the men’s team to two national titles and three top-four finishes and the women’s team to three second-place and one third-place finish in the nation. Roy was instrumental in starting the golf team at NCCC, and in 1993 guided the squad to its first and only NJCAA Region III Championship.
