A comprehensive overview of current health and wellness themes that will assist students in critical thinking and making well informed decisions regarding health related issues. Topic areas include drug misuse and abuse, nutrition and weight management, sexuality, stress reduction, cancer prevention, cardiovascular disease and others. (Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters).

Understanding Sexuality

Interrelated topics focusing on the biological, psychological, sociological and ethical aspects of human sexuality will be covered in this course. (Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters).

Substance Abuse Prevention
(2 Lec. hrs. per week) 3 Cr.
A comprehensive course of current drug related issues which focus on such themes as values clarification, legal drug use and abuse, trends and factors influencing drug misuse and abuse, fundamental pharmacology and neurophysiology, prevention, rehabilitation and legal issues. (Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters).

Nutrition and Health
(3 Lec. hrs. per week) 3 Cr.
A study of basic nutritional needs of an individual as recommended by the National Academy of Sciences, as well as treatments of the topics of overweight and obesity. Various fad diets will be evaluated as will nutritional needs of children, adolescents, adults, seniors, and pregnant women. (Usually offered Spring semester.)

Consumer Health

Health problems related to consumer goods,
services, and hazards will be investigated with
special emphasis on selected areas of student
interest and current consumer health issues.

Community Health
(3 Lec. hrs. per week) 3 Cr.
Study of the comprehensive health services both public and private that deliver preventive, curative and restorative health care to any selected community. The interdependent characteristics of these services, the community environment, the philosophy of society toward health care and the financial foundations will each be investigated in this course. (Usually offered Spring semester).

Community First Aid and Safety
(2 Lab hrs. per week) 2 Cr.
Standard First Aid and Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation which are taught as an interrelated body of skills and knowledge under the guidelines and sanctions of the American Red Cross. (Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters).

Advanced First Aid and CPR
(1 Lec. hrs., 2 Lab hrs. per week) 2 Cr.
Prepares a student as a care giver in first aid and as a CPR professional rescuer. It also emphasizes the importance of a safe, healthy life style, and knowledge to prevent life style related injuries and/or illnesses. American Red Cross guidelines and sanctions are adhered to. (Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters).
