Board of Trustees Approve Two Academic Programs

SANBORN, N.Y. (Dec. 3, 2008) — The Niagara County Community College Board of Trustees today approved two academic programs, International Business and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), at its monthly board meeting at the Notar Administration Building on the Sanborn campus.

These programs could begin as early as September 2009, pending approval by the State University of New York and the New York State Education Department.

NCCC’s International Business program will provide prospective students with the global awareness necessary to be successful. This program takes advantage of the Buffalo-Niagara region ranking in the nation’s top 10 regarding the number of international transactions processed, value of shipments processed and land shipments.

The associate in science degree will provide classes in world civilizations, world literature, anthropology, geography, intermediate level foreign language study, a strong foundation—in the areas of marketing, management and accounting—in business education, and in quantitative analysis with statistics and applied calculus.

As racial and ethnic diversity within United States continues to expand, NCCC’s TESOL program will prepare perspective students to develop and maintain professional expertise in English language teaching and learning for speakers of other languages.

The associate in arts degree, which is a jointly registered program with Niagara University, will lead prospective students to attain NYS certification in teaching to speakers of other languages in grades K-12.
