{ NCCC Joins College Prep Partnership Program }

SANBORN, N.Y. (Nov. 13, 2008) — Niagara County Community College announced today it has invited, along with 15 other select colleges and universities in the northeast, to be part of Public School (PS) 247’s College Prep Partnership Program.

The invited colleges and universities will help created an environment to promote college education and a belief that college is part of any career path or life goal of a PS 247s elementary school student.

“When the elementary school approached NCCC, I was impressed by its commitment to the higher education potential for their students,” Lydia Ulatowski, Assistant to the Dean and NCCC’s primary liaison for the program said. “The students will grow up asking, ‘where am I going to college, not will I go to college.’ Our partnership with PS 247 fits perfectly will NCCC’s mission of empowering students and celebrating diversity.”

PS 247, located in Brooklyn, N.Y., and NCCC will collaborate to support PS 247’s goal of preparing all of its students to complete elementary school with an awareness and opportunity to consider college as part of their life’s educational plan.

Ulatowski travels to PS 247 Nov. 18 to bring Niagara Falls and its history to life for the students. NCCC’s Teacher Education Club also supplied items for the students, and will continue fund raising to support the partnership, communicate with the students by computer and potentially have a field trip to PS 247.

PS 247 has approximately 700 students in grades pre-kindergarten to fifth grade. The school is ethnically diverse, with students speaking 30 languages.
