{ Buffalo State Dance Ensemble to Perform at NCCC }
SANBORN, N.Y. (Sept. 18, 2008) — The Buffalo State College Dance Ensemble will present a program of American music at Niagara County Community College on September 23 from 12:45-1:45 p.m.
This free event will be held in the college’s theatre and is open to the public.
Directed by choreographer Janet Reed, the program will feature performances that blend American music, progressive rap, soul, blues, and hip-hop with composers Bernstein and Copeland.
The ensemble will be accompanied by Buffalo State College Music Department faculty clarinetist Dr. Benjamin Christy and pianist Dr. Bryan Boyce.
Reed’s choreography has been performed in Holland, Germany and Scotland, and Janet Reed & Dancers recently performed in the first International Dance Festival in New York City.
She has taught at numerous Western New York dance institutions and has presented master classes throughout the United States. She currently teaches African American dance, ballet, modern dance, jazz and dance history.
Dr. Christy is a professor of music and Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities at Buffalo State College.
A native of Texas, he earned his bachelor of music education from Texas Christian University and his master’s degree in music in wind instruments from the University of Michigan.
Buffalo State Dr. Bryan Boyce is currently an assistant professor of music at Buffalo State College. He holds a doctor of musical arts degree in piano performance and literature from the Eastman Community Music School in Rochester, a master’s degree in piano performance and pedagogy from Bowling Green State University and bachelor’s degree in piano performance and music education from the University of North Texas.
The dance ensemble will also perform this same program during their upcoming tour of China.
