Enrollment Reaches All-Time High
SANBORN, N.Y. (Nov. 5, 2008) —Niagara County Community College announced today that it has reached record-breaking enrollment numbers, increasing by 5.3 percent over last year and 43.3 percent higher than fall 2000. NCCC enrolled a school record 6,678 students this fall compared to 4,656 in fall 2000.
The fall 2008 enrollment is NCCC’s highest enrollment in its history and one of the highest percentage increases in more than 10 years. NCCC also saw a rise in first-time student enrollment with 1,658, a 15.6 percent increase from 2007-08’s enrollment of 1,434.
“These numbers show that NCCC has been able to offer a high quality, affordable education and an opportunity to enter the workforce after graduation or to transfer to a four-year college or university,” Dr. James P. Klyczek, Niagara County Community College President said. “With the outstanding job our faculty and staff do of identifying the needs of our students, we have been able to quickly respond not only to student demand, but to workforce training needs within our neighborhood and regionally.”
NCCC’s credit enrollment reflects all full- and part-time day and evening students, and students enrolled in the College Acceleration Program.
The opening of The Village College Suites has helped NCCC’s enrollment, offering apartment-style housing facility next door to campus. Currently, 210 students reside in on-campus housing.
The College’s non-credit enrollment through programs in workforce development, continuing education, pre-collegiate programming and remedial programming was at 6,730 students for the most recently completed academic year. Programs are conducted at the Sanborn main campus as well as at three other college sites: Lockport, the Trott Access Center in Niagara Falls and at the Summit Mall.
NCCC offers 65 academic programs, including eight programs introduced this fall: associate degrees in baking and pastry, restaurant management and tourism & event planning; and certificates in event planning, tourism management, wine and beverage management, audio recording and production and early childhood studies.
The NCCC Board of Trustees has approved new programs in the following areas: spa management, massage therapy and liberal arts and science: teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL). These programs could open as early as Sept. 2009, pending approval by SUNY and the New York State Education Department.
NCCC is one of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York, the largest public university system in the country. The college is funded by the Niagara County Legislature, the State University of New York, and student tuition.
