{ Gerbasi, Woodworth, Parker Honored by SUNY }

SANBORN, N.Y. —State University of New York (SUNY) Chancellor Dr. Nancy L. Zimpher today announced the 2008-09 Academic Year recipients of the Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence and Niagara County Community College had three members of the college honored. Associate Professor Dr. Kathy Gerbasi of the Social Sciences Division was honored for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Service, Associate Professor in the Nursing Division, Julie Woodworth, received the Chancellor’s Award for Teaching and Pamela Parker, Supervisor of Central Services, was honored with the Chancellor’s Award for Classified Service.

Earning her bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Rochester in 1971 and 1976, respectively, Dr. Gerbasi teaches a variety of psychology courses, including a course titled the Psychology of Human-Animal Relationships. She has conducted research in several areas of Human Animal Studies.

Woodworth, a certified Nursing Educator by the National League of Nursing, has worked at NCCC for over 12 years and has served as both full-time and adjunct faculty. In May of 2008, Woodworth received the Innovations in Teaching Award from NCCC for her use of Nursing Case Studies in the classroom. An alumna of NCCC, Woodworth holds an associate’s in nursing, earned a bachelor’s degree from Daeman College and a master’s degree from D’Youville College.

Parker, an alumna of NCCC, began her tenure at the college in 1983 and was named to her current post in 1994. In her position, Parker was honored with NCCC’s Excellence in Service in 1998, and has instituted new initiatives and innovations in Central Services.

The Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence are System-level honors conferred to acknowledge and provide system-wide recognition for consistently superior professional achievement and to encourage the ongoing pursuit of excellence. These programs underscore SUNY’s commitment to sustaining intellectual vibrancy, advancing the boundaries of knowledge, providing the highest quality of instruction, and serving the public good. Through these awards, SUNY publicly proclaims its pride in the accomplishment and personal dedication of its instructional faculty, librarians and professional staff across its campuses. The awards provide SUNY-wide recognition in five categories:  Faculty Service, Librarianship, Professional Service, Scholarship and Creative Activities, and Teaching.
