Poetry Reading, Book Signing at NCCC

SANBORN, N.Y. (Sept. 19, 2008) — Poet Carrie Shipers will present a poetry reading on October 9 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Niagara County Community College Art Gallery. The free event is open to the public and will be followed by a book signing and reception.

Shipers will also be visiting NCCC creative writing classes during her two-day visit to the college.

A fourth-year doctoral candidate in creative writing at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Shipers is a senior poetry reader for Prairie Schooner and coordinator of the Prairie Schooner Book Prize Series.    

She has authored two chapbooks, Ghost-Writing (Pudding House, 2007) and Rescue Conditions (Slipstream Press, 2008) and her poems have appeared in such notable publications as Crab Orchard Review, Barrow Street, Hayden’s Ferry Review and other journals.

Her appearance at the college, which is being sponsored by Student Activities and a grant by Poets & Writers, is part of the college’s On the Edge Poetry Series.
