Volleyball Team Putting Nation on Notice
SANBORN, N.Y. (Sept. 17, 2008) - After the Niagara County Community College volleyball team went 5-0 last weekend to win the Fulton-Montgomery Tournament Championship, the team earned a top-10 ranking nationally according to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll released today. The Trailblazers are currently ranked No. 10 with a 7-0 overall record. NCCC was one of five teams to receive votes for the NJCAA top 10 in last week’s poll, the first of the 2008 season.
In just her second season as head coach, Jill Faddoul has led NCCC to its first national ranking after guiding the team to its first playoff berth in seven years in 2007.
A pair of freshmen from Starpoint High School have also made an impact early in their college careers. Setter Kathie Kreppenneck leads the country with 10 assists per game while middle hitter Ashley Berry is fifth in the NJCAA in hitting percentage (.412) sixth in service aces per game (.933) and eighth in kills per game (3.067).
The undefeated Trailblazers are back in action Thursday, traveling to Jamestown Community College for a 6 p.m. match. NCCC is back at home September 23 to host Alfred State at 6 p.m.
