Former Sabres Coach Ted Nolan to Speak at NCCC
SANBORN, N.Y. — The Niagara County Community College Speaker Series features former National Hockey League Coach of the Year Ted Nolan to discuss heritage, responsibility and leadership Sept. 29 at 12:30 p.m. in the Arts and Media Theatre on the Sanborn campus. Admission is free and open to the public and is sponsored by Niagara County Community College Student Senate, Native American Western Consortium and Multicultural Student Support Services.
Nolan is currently is the vice president of hockey operations for the American Hockey League’s Rochester Americans. He is best known as the former head coach of the Buffalo Sabres and New York Islanders.
Nolan won the Jack Adams Trophy as the NHL’s top coach leading the Sabres to a Northeast Division title in 1996-97. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach with Hartford Whalers and played three seasons in the NHL for the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins.
Nolan is also very active in his foundation, the Ted Nolan Foundation. Through the philosophy of healthy lifestyle, the Ted Nolan Foundation is committed to the healing process to renew and revitalize the mind, body and spirit of young people. The Foundation helps train a new cadre of Aboriginal leaders today and to take their rightful place in Canadian society tomorrow. They also develop programs at the community level for First Nations youth in communities no matter how isolated or poverty stricken and raise scholarship funds for First Nation women wishing to complete their education.
