Dr. Michael Eric Dyson to Speak at NCCC

Dr. Michael Eric Dyson to Speak at NCCC 


         SANBORN, N.Y. — Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, the renowned social analyst, best-selling author, and professor of Sociology at Georgetown University, who is considered one of the finest thinkers in the United States, will speak at Niagara County Community College on Tuesday, February 16 at 12:30 p.m. in the Arts and Media Theater on the Sanborn campus.  The public is invited to attend this free lecture. 

One of the nation’s most inspiring and influential African Americans, Dr. Dyson represents a new generation of public intellectuals.  He is the author of 16 books including "Is Bill Cosby Right" and "Come Hell or High Water - Hurricane Katrina and the Color of Disaster".  Michael Eric Dyson is a longtime professor and lecturer, and an author who addresses issues of race and culture in such diverse publications as Christian Century and Rolling Stone.   

A renowned scholar with a PhD from Princeton University, he is a highly published writer and is regularly seen on news and commentary television shows throughout the country.  He is a regular commentator on National Public Radio, CNN, and the HBO TV program Real Time with Bill Maher.  He is also a leading scholar on hip-hop music and the culture that surrounds it, as well as its roots in African and African-American cultures and influence on American popular culture. 

The lecture at NCCC; "Race, Culture and Politics in 2010" will bridge the era of Martin Luther King to the hip hop culture of today.  A question and answer session and book signing will follow the presentation.  The lecture is presented by NCCC Student Government.  For further information, please contact Tony Ventresca at (716)614-6257.
