NCCC’s Women’s Volleyball Team Takes 4th at Nationals

Niagara County Community College’s Women’s Volleyball team finished in 4th place at the National NJCAA tournament in Rochester Minnesota over the weekend.

The Lady Trailblazers lost their opening round match played on Friday the 13th to Central Lakes College (Brainerd, MN) 9-25, 23-25, 19-25. The NCCC women then came back on Friday and defeated Davidson County Community College (Lexington, NC) in four matches 25-21, 17-25, 26-24 and 25-14.

On Saturday NCCC defeated Butler CC (Butler, PA) in four sets, 19-25, 25-14, 25-11, 25-22, to clinch fourth place in the national tournament. In the contest for fourth place Kathie Kreppenneck had 39 assists, Kari Seabert 16 kills and Margo Pagano 17 digs.

Taylor Pagano was named to the all-tournament team and had the following comments; “My team placing 4th at nationals was amazing, and definitely one of the best experiences of my life so far. Of course nothing is better than coming in first place, but fourth is just amazing for us. Then being named on the all-tournament team at nationals was a huge honor and I was certainly surprised, but it was so awesome. I’ll never forget this trip.”

Head Coach Joe Daigler states,” It was our goal from the beginning of the season to make the national tournament. I had stated that since the beginning. We accomplished that goal and improved on it by finishing fourth in the nation. I didn't want to leave Rochester Minnesota lower than what we were seeded. Going into the tournament we were seeded 4th, so finishing anywhere above that would be icing on the cake. Every coach wants to win a national championship, but for these nine players to go as far as they have, that's an accomplishment they can hold their heads up about.”
