Retired CIA Agent Michael Scheuer to Speak At NCCC
Buffalo Native Served As Head of Bin Laden Tracking Unit
Michael F. Scheuer, a retired 22 year CIA employee who played a significant role in the search for Osama bin Laden, will be on campus to discuss Middle East issues Monday April 19.
Scheuer served as the Chief of the Bin Laden Issue Station, the Osama Bin Laden tracking unit at the Counterterrorist Center, from 1996 to 1999. He also worked again as Special Advisor to the Chief of the bin Laden unit from September 2001 to November 2004. His unit is credited with successfully locating bin Laden on at least eight occasions during his tenure.
Scheuer became a controversial public figure after being identified as the anonymous author of the 2004 book Imperial Hubris, in which he criticized many long held U.S. assumptions about the motives for Islamic terrorism. He has been a vocal critic of U.S. policies under both Republican and Democratic Administrations.
Michael Scheuer is a native of Buffalo, New York, and a graduate of Canisius College. He earned his Master’s Degree from Niagara University.
Mr. Scheuer' public presentation will take place at 7:00 pm in the Arts & Media Theater Monday April 19. This presentation is sponsored by NCCC Student Government; it is free and open to the public.
