NCCC Art Gallery to Present: Fabric of War; Papermaking and Printmaking as Social Engagement

Niagara County Community College Art Gallery and the Arts and Media Division will present Fabric of War; Papermaking and Printmaking as Social Engagement from January 27 - February 26, 2011 in the Art Gallery on the Sanborn campus of the college.
Fabric of War is a powerful exhibition of work created by veterans through The Combat Paper Project. The Combat Paper Project utilizes art-making workshops offered throughout the USA, to assist veterans in reconciling and sharing their personal experiences of their service and the military culture. From uniform to pulp, battlefield to workshop, warrior to artist - this exhibition and related events will heighten the public’s consciousness of the impact of an ongoing war on personal lives of those who have served in the military and our nation’s psyche. The public is invited to not only view this work but to touch it and experience it as a personal event. Additional information about this project may be found at http://www.combatpaper.org/
Opening Receptions will be held on Tuesday February 1st from 12:15 pm - 2 pm and from 6 -7 pm in the art gallery.
In conjunction with this show, hands on workshops and demonstrations will be held in the in the lobby of the NCCC Arts and Media Building for two weeks. From January 31st – February 4th: Paper making with Combat Paper Artists and from February 7 –11: Printmaking with artists Anne Muntges and Hyeyoung Shin.
In addition, two artist’s talks will be held in the NCCC art gallery. On Tuesday, February 1st at 7 pm the Combat Paper Artists will speak and on Monday, February 7th at 7 pm, printmaking artists Anne Muntges and Hyeyoung Shin will speak.
To conclude the two weeks of active art making, a closing ceremony will be held on Friday, February 11th at 1 pm in the lobby of the NCCC Arts & Media building. There will be a public give away of paper and prints created during the preceding two weeks of workshops
