{ Beilein Named Men's Basketball Coach }
SANBORN, N.Y. — Bill Beilein, one of the area’s top up-and-coming
young coaches, has
been named the next Niagara County Community
College men’s basketball coach, athletics director Lee Wallace announced Thursday.
“After a lengthy search with an excellent pool of candidates, I am thrilled to announce Bill Beilein as our new men’s basketball coach,” Wallace said. “Bill comes from a basketball family and has paid his dues in the basketball trenches. I have confidence that he will put all that basketball knowledge together and create a program that everyone at NCCC can be proud of.”
Beilein comes to NCCC after spending a season as the men’s assistant basketball coach at Medialle College. He was responsible for coaching, recruiting, scouting and film exchange. The squad reached the NCAA Tournament after claiming the conference and regular-season titles and finishing 21-7.
“I want to thank President Klyczek and Lee Wallace for this wonderful opportunity,” Beilein said. “My vision for the future of NCCC men’s basketball is to have each student-athlete graduate, compete at a high level on the basketball court and continue to grow as individuals.”
Beilein, nephew of Michigan head men’s basketball coach John Beilein, spent time as the boys’ junior varsity high school coach at Lewiston (2006-08), assistant coach at Bennett High School (2002-03), graduate assistant coach at University of Mobile (2001-02) and as the assistant coach at SUNY at New Paltz (2000-01). He has also spent the last six seasons as the AAU coach of the Harbor Hoopsters.
The Newfane native was a four-year letterwinner at SUNY Oswego. He finished his career ranked third in steals and ninth in rebounds in the program, and was an Academic All-SUNYAC selection.
Beilein earned his bachelor’s degree in history from SUNY Oswego in 2001 and is working toward a master’s degree in sport administration at Canisius College.
