Business Education
Students interested in a career in a business
environment are encouraged to participate in a variety of courses
and programs offered in their schools. Since each high school's
Business Department offers a diverse program, Tech Prep supports
a multitude of pathways for students to be considered part of the
program.
Courses that carry articulated credit or advanced
credit recommendation are generally in the area of Marketing. Courses
that were developed include: Introduction to Marketing, Introduction
to Entrepreneurship, and the two 20 week courses in the Hospitality
Management area (Sports and Entertainment & Hospitality and
Tourism Marketing). Students who pass the final assessment with
a final grade of 80 will be offered a 3 credit hour Business Technical
elective upon enrolling at NCCC in a matriculated career program.
Courses in
Business programs in local high schools include: Accounting, Advanced
Accounting, Business Law I & II, Marketing, Introduction to
Entrepreneurship, Hospitality and Tourism Marketing, Sports and
Entertainment Marketing, Micro-Soft Office.
Over the past two years a variety of high schools
are working to offer Micro-Soft Office Certifications within their
Business Departments. Software certifications are offered over a
two- year sequence breaking the four applications (Word, Excel,
Powerpoint and Access) into 20- week courses. Upon completion of
the applications, students become eligible to take the certification
exam. Once certified, during their high school program, students
will become eligible to receive credit in CIS 100 Introduction to
Computer Applications at NCCC.
