Driver Education

Niagara County Community College partners with AAA of Western and Central NY to offer a Driver Education course to help High School Students and other new drivers learn proper and safe driving procedures. The course is designed for individuals 16 years of age and older.  Students under 18 who successfully complete the program will receive the NY State MV-285(Blue Card) which enables individuals 17 years of age to secure a Senior Operators license.  Additionally,  upon successful completion of the program students will receive a basic one year membership from AAA and may be eligible for insurance reduction rates from their insurance company.

5-Hour Pre-Licensing Course

This safe driving course is offered through AAA of Western and Central NY at the NCCC Sanborn Campus and the Trott Access Center.  The course covers important topics such as Defensive Driving, Effects of Driver Attitude, Emotions and Skills, and Alcohol & Drugs and their effect on Driving as well as other driving topics.

Completion of this 5-hours course earns an MV 278 certificate, which is required to take the New York State DMV Road Test

Driving Improvement Program for Traffic Violators

This 3-hour traffic course is for area traffic court defendants who have been referred by the local judiciary for a safe driving course.  Admittance into the program is arranged with the local traffic courts and office of Continuing Education at NCCC. The course is offered under the auspices of the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles.  You may take this course only one time in an 18 –month period.  The course is offered the first Saturday and Third Monday of each month. Pre-class registration is preferred.

Driving Insurance & Point Reduction Program

This 6-hour point and insurance reduction program offers education for safe driving.  In addition, you may receive a subtraction of up to four (4) points from your driving record and a minimum 10 percent reduction in the base rate of your auto liability, no-fault and collision insurance premiums each year for three years as principal operator of a vehicle. Driving Insurance & Point Reduction Program – Online

NCCC and the National Safety Council Offers a NYS DMV approved program in the online format for $39.95.  The course is NYS specific and will run a minimum of 320 minutes in length. You will be able to stop and start while taking the program.  Your voice imprint will be registered and checked 6x during the course to guarantee that the person taking the course is the person registered for the course.   Course must be completed within 30 days of registering.  You are allowed up to three attempts to pass.  For additional information on the online program go to National Safety Council or call 1-800-962-3434.
