The Future Leaders Liberty Partnership Program
raises money for Casey House

The Future Leaders Liberty Partnerships program has begun to focus many of its effort on community involvement. This past winter the program decided to raise money for and awareness about Casey House. Casey House is a shelter in Niagara Falls that services runaway, homeless, at-risk teenagers. The staff first introduced the students to Sadako, a young girl in Japan who developed cancer after the bombing of Hiroshima, and the paper cranes. In Japan it is believed that if someone folds a 1000 paper cranes that their wishes will come true. Sadako decided to fold 1000 paper cranes in hopes that she would live. Sadly, Sadako died but before she did she managed to fold well over 1000 paper cranes. Today paper cranes symbolize hope and overcoming adversity. At each of the affiliated school sites, the Future Leaders participated in a paper crane folding campaign. Once the cranes were folded, several of our schools sold the cranes for a dollar each. The Future Leaders Liberty Partnership was able to raise $200 for Casey House. The Future Leaders Program was recognized by Senator Ortt for their hard work and dedication to Niagara County.
