b'AcademicsChef Steven Hummel assists student chefs in Savor RestaurantStudent-Run ConceptImplementation at SavorThe Niagara Falls Culinary Institute (NFCI) has always provided up-and-coming chefs with a hands-on learning environment to sharpen their skills in culinary arts and baking and pastry arts, and now these unique programs offer even more opportunities for students to excel and stand out in their field.At the start of the fall semester, the retail outlets at NFCI revised their approach by launching a completely academic model supported by Niagara County Community College.This all-academic model means that chef instructors at NFCI incorporate rotations in the retail outlets, Savor Restaurant and La Patisserie, as part of the curriculum.The applied learning experience of preparing and serving food in an active restaurant right in the heart of a world-class tourist destination is a unique and valuable tool to ensure students are ready to be successful in a career right after graduation.
