Sheila Smith

Appointed 2009 / Current term expires 2023

Sheila Smith was appointed to the NCCC Board of Trustees by the Governor in 2009.  She serves as the Chair of the Academic/Student Life Committee and is a member of the By-Laws Committee.  Smith is a Presidential Partner with the NCCC Foundation and is also a member of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Charles Kennedy Equity Award Committee.

Smith served as Principal at 79th Street Elementary School in Niagara Falls and has held the position until retirement in 2022. She previously served as the Principal of Hyde Park Elementary and Gaskill Preparatory Middle School.

As Principal, Smith was responsible for the management and implementation of district and state policies, regulations, and procedures.  At the building-level, she oversaw scheduling, curriculum and professional development, personnel management, and emergency and facility operations.  In addition, she was responsible for evaluations and oversaw all school-wide instructional, data, financial, and student services and systems.

From 1995 to 2000 Smith was Director of the Niagara Regional School-to-Work Consortium which was housed at NCCC. She currently is a New York State Certification School Building Leader Exam Reviewer for the New York State Education Department. In addition, she serves as a member of the national civic organization, The Links, Inc. and its Leadership Institute and serves as a National Program Reviewer.

Smith has a Master of Science degree in Educational Administration and Elementary Education from Niagara University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Labor Relations from Cornell University.
