Commencement 2022

NCCC Nursing Pinning Ceremony

Friday, May 13, 2022 at 6:00pm
NCCC Arts and Media Theatre | F-Building

The ceremony will be structured to recognize Nursing traditions:

The Nursing Pin symbolizes the completion of the Nursing Program. It identifies the Nursing graduate to patients as a Registered Nurse.

  • Students can purchase a pin from the NCCC Bookstore between now and May 13. They will have a sheet to sign, give the student a receipt and notify the Nursing Program that a pin was purchased.  Dr. Flammia will bring all the pins to the ceremony.

The White Uniform symbolizes the historically ‘clean and aseptic’ dress of the nurse. Although current practice sees nurses wearing a variety of colors, the ceremony will mark the entrance into the traditional role.

  • Each student is asked to wear a white uniform and white shoes.  The professional image of hair contained, no jewelry and clean pressed uniform is expected. (The ‘dress code’)

The Candle Ceremony symbolizes the flame of the candle Florence Nightingale used to light her way throughout the wards of the sick.

  • Students may be asked to assist with the candle ceremony.

The Nightingale Pledge is recited by nurses as they enter the profession.

  • The Nightingale Pledge will be provided to all participants.

Speakers – each year the students choose 1 student and 1 faculty member to address the graduates and the audience with a message of congratulations and send-off into the world of nursing. Vote on Blackboard under Content, folder for pinning ceremony.

All students are eligible for up to 8 tickets each for friends and family to attend pinning.  These 8 tickets will be distributed to students on May 3rd  during the Perspectives class.
