Present Day Freedom Seekers and The Power of our Stories

Saladin AllahPresent Day Freedom Seekers and the Power of Our Stories is an enlightening 60-minute presentation about knowledge of self, the value of our heritage and the journey of self‐discovery through accessing, articulating, and preserving our story. Through the sharing of Saladin’s personal story as a descendant of famed underground railroad freedom seeker Josiah Henson, his professional work in the area of youth outreach and community engagement, he will discuss the importance and urgency of everyday people finding a sense of agency in their legacy as modern-day Freedom Seekers.

John D Strong
Chief Diversity and Equity Officer

John D Strong received his undergraduate degree from Canisius College in Physical Education and his Master’s Degree in Education from Walden University with a concentration in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. He currently Chairs the SUNY Niagara Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Committee and has been a part of it since its inception in 2016. He is also the current Chair of the Society of Health And Physical Education America’s Special Interest Group on Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion which has since become a standing Committee of that national organization. John’s persistence in the area of JEDI has been reflected in other similar roles at the state and local levels for almost ten years and he is proud to serve at SUNY Niagara as our newest Chief Diversity and Equity Officer.
