Cindy Oberjosh

Biography

Dr. Oberjosh joined SUNY Niagara in 1975 as a first-generation college student in the Secretarial Certificate Program and graduating in 1977 in Liberal Arts: Humanities & Social Sciences. During her academic program she worked as a work-study student and credits this opportunity as changing her career and life goals. In 1981 she returned in several part-time and adjunct teaching position. She completed her master’s degree at Canisius College in Human Services: School and Community Counseling in 1983 and was hired as a faculty member in Student Services in 1984. With over 30 years of experience in higher education, student services and teaching, Dr. Oberjosh is a true believer in the community college opportunity and personally and professionally committed to student success.

Dr. Oberjosh started her professional career at SUNY Niagara in 1981 as a part-time technical assistant in the Financial Aid Office and in the Counseling Center. She also taught courses in Career Planning, Personal Growth & Development, and Achievement Motivation in the General Studies Program. In 1984 Dr. Oberjosh was hired as a full-time faculty counselor in Admissions and Financial Aid. She has 22 years of experience in Student Services including admission, financial aid, career planning, employment readiness, and job development. She also served almost 3 years in the Office of Academic Affairs overseeing the Academic Good Standing Policy and working with students who were on academic probation or who were academically dismissed from the college and another 3 years in Workforce Development overseeing the college’s non-credit programs. Beginning in 2013 Dr. Oberjosh has been a professor in the Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences Division with a focus on learning skills and human services. Because of her love for education and lifelong learning, Dr. Oberjosh was recently awarded 2nd Place for the best peer mentoring and support provided to other Tools of Engagement Project (TOEP) participants by the State University of New York (SUNY) Tools of Engagement Project team.
