SBDC offers free eCommerce webinar

On Wednesday, July 29th, the Niagara Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will present two live webinars focusing on eCommerce for small business success.  Attendees will learn how to capture first page rankings on Google, create effective landing pages that convert into sales, target customers with Google Ads, Google Shopping, and Google Local and explore online marketplaces including Amazon.  The webinar will explore a step-by-step eCommerce success story with Falconer Electronics, and a question and answer period will be provided.

SUNY Niagara to Offer PPE Training for Hospitality Industry

The SUNY Niagara Workforce Development Department will offer online training targeting businesses involved in the reopening of the Hospitality sector. This awareness level training is geared for employees that will be returning to the workplace and may be responsible for the cleaning and disinfection of their work space. The objective of this course is to raise the awareness of COVID-19 with factual information and simple steps that employees can take to avoid spreading the disease within the workplace or at home. This interactive web-based training provides ample opportunity for students to engage in informative Q&A’s. This is an opportunity for a branding advantage as companies resume business back to full operation. “This is a great training for businesses who are unsure of the current standards and who want to be prepared with a plan for how to reopen”, according to Karen Kwandrans, Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs.  “The instructors are all safety-certified trainers and are up-to-date on regulatory changes issued by the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).”

Presentations are industry-specific and this set of courses will be focused on the hospitality industry. The online classes for the hospitality industry will be offered:
June 15, 2020 at 8am -10:30am or 1:00pm-3:30pm

SUNY Niagara to Offer Free Webinar on Training for Re-opening Restaurants

The SUNY Niagara Small Business Development Center (SBDC), in conjunction with Workforce Development, will hold training for Western New York restaurants to help them prepare for reopening. The SBDC training will focus on restaurant businesses that will be reopening during the New York Phase-in process. Businesses will be responsible for the cleaning and disinfection of their operations as well as providing relevant Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and establishing proper social distancing. The Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation is sponsoring is webinar – so there is no cost to participate.

The objective of this course is to provide accurate information relating to COVID-19 and simple steps that businesses can take to avoid spreading the disease within the workplace. This interactive web-based training provides opportunities for attendees to engage in informative Q&A’s.  “This is a great training for businesses who are unsure of the current standards and who want to prepare their plan for reopening their business”, states Lynn Oswald, Director of the SUNY Niagara SBDC.  The instructor is a safety certified trainer and is up-to-date on regulatory changes issued by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and New York State.

The webinar will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 from 9am -11:30am. SUNY Niagara Workforce Development is hosting a similar training program aimed at helping manufacturers. For a small fee, WNY manufacturers will receive expert instruction on re-opening issues specific to a production facility. Additional training will be announced in the near future for restaurant and hospitality operations.

Entrepreneur Series at SUNY Niagara SBDC

For those looking to enhance their business skills or strengthen an existing business, the Small Business Development Center at SUNY Niagara will be offering an Entrepreneur Series this spring.  The event is presented in collaboration with community partners from the Greater Lockport Development Center, the Niagara County Center for Economic Development, and the Lumber City Development Corporation.

The series kicks off on Wednesday, March 25th, and runs every Wednesday until May 20th from 6-9:00 p.m. in room C-161 on the Sanborn Campus of SUNY Niagara located at 3111 Saunders Settlement Road.  The topics covered include: Entrepreneurship, Social Media for Small Business, Budget and Recordkeeping, Marketing for Small Business, Human Resource Management, Understanding your Financial Picture, Business Owner’s Insurance, Taxes and the Small Business, and Leadership: Employee and Self-Motivation.  A certificate is provided upon the completion of all 9 classes.
