SUNY Niagara Library Open to Niagara County Residents

By News Archive

June 24, 2021

The Lewis Library at SUNY Niagara is more than an academic resource for registered students. All Niagara County residents are eligible for a free membership to the Lewis Library at the Sanborn Campus. Card-holding members have access to books, audiobooks, magazines, journals, newspapers, DVDs, and CDs. While within the Library, community members have access to computers and almost 100 research databases, such as Newsbank and Ancestry.  Check out newly released or classic books from virtually any genre, including fiction, biographies, children’s literature, poetry, cookbooks, and much more.

In addition, the Lewis Library is offering summer programming open to the public. The Noontime Knowledge series is a free, virtual event where attendees have the opportunity to enjoy lunch and learn about a new topic. Meetings are held every Wednesday at 12 p.m. through Zoom. Topics include: graphic design; accessing historic newspapers; how to make and save money online; and Google and internet research tips. In addition, book club chats are woven into the schedule, giving the community a chance to enjoy some leisurely reading and create new friendships.

Senior Scholars, Niagara County residents ages 60 and over, are also welcome to take an audited research methods class, LLC 161. This course is taught by Jean Linn, SUNY Niagara’s Librarian & Archivist who is also Lockport, New York’s Town Historian. In addition to traditional academic research, methods taught in this class can be used to develop local or family histories.

The Lewis Library is open during the summer from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Beginning in August, the library will be open on Fridays 8 a.m. – 4p.m. For more information, visit www.niagaracc.suny.edu/library or call 716-614-6780.
