Emergency Medical Services (EMT)
Emergency Medical Professionals are trained to recognize, assess, and manage emergencies of acutely ill or severely injured patients. They are the first responders to a medical or traumatic emergency, providing patient care, and then transporting the sick or injured to appropriate medical facilities.
This course presents the National EMS Education Standards for the EMT. It consists of seven (7) modules that are based on the National Scope of Practice. Course content will introduce basic life support concepts, knowledge, and skills to the prospective Emergency Medical Technician. Modules include Preparatory, Airway Management, Patient Assessment, Medical Emergencies, Trauma, Pediatric/Special needs Patients/Geriatric, and EMS Operations. The New York State EMT/AEMT BLS Protocols are introduced to the prospective student and practiced during lab sessions throughout the course. An American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR certification is also included in this course.
Program Requirements:
- Attendance is mandatory for all sessions.
- Please register for EMT courses at least one week prior to the start date. Payment must accompany your registration form.
- Students are required to purchase course textbooks (available at the College Bookstore).
EMT REFRESHER: To retain NYS DOH EMS certification, all EMS personnel must refresh their certification every three years. This course presents the transition from the current NYS DOH Bureau of EMS curricula to the National Educational Standards. Students will be presented with a mandatory essential transition curriculum. An American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR certification is also included in this course. Students must have NYS DOH EMT certification, expired or not, and a copy of the certification on the first night of class. Candidates who wish to challenge are required to attend the challenge evaluation. The balance of the sessions will be scheduled with the course coordinator.

Days/Times: Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. & Four Saturdays 8:00am – 4:30pm
State Exam: 8/17/23 to be scheduled on your own @ NYS approved testing site

*Students are responsible for all textbooks and specialty certification costs to include but not limited to CPR, PALS, ACLS, and ITLS/PHTLS as applicable. Courses subject to cancellation. – Due to Covid-19, Lectures may be done by zoom.
