Emergency Medical Services (EMT)

Emergency Medical Professionals are trained to recognize, assess, and manage emergencies of acutely ill or severely injured patients. They are the first responders to a medical or traumatic emergency, providing patient care, and then transporting the sick or injured to appropriate medical facilities.

This course presents the National EMS Education Standards for the EMT. It consists of seven (7) modules that are based on the National Scope of Practice. Course content will introduce basic life support concepts, knowledge, and skills to the prospective Emergency Medical Technician. Modules include Preparatory, Airway Management, Patient Assessment, Medical Emergencies, Trauma, Pediatric/Special needs Patients/Geriatric, and EMS Operations. The New York State EMT/AEMT BLS Protocols are introduced to the prospective student and practiced during lab sessions throughout the course. An American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR certification is also included in this course.
