4 Calling Birds
Gingerbread Cut-out Cookies
Ingredients
- 6.5 cups flour
- 2TB cinnamon
- 2TB ground ginger
- 1.5 tsp baking soda
- 1.5 tsp ground cloves
- 1 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp salt
- 1.5 cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup molasses
- 3 tsp vanilla
Directions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cinnamon, ginger, baking soda, cloves, salt, and nutmeg. Set aside
- In a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, beat the butter and sugar together for 2 minutes on med. speed until light and fluffy
- Add in eggs, molasses, and vanilla beat on med. speed until combined.
- Reduce speed and add in the flour mixture just until combined
- Divide dough into 2 portions, and plastic wrap, chill for 2 hours or overnight
- Heat oven to 350 degrees, and line baking sheet with parchment
- Unwrap the dough and place it on a lightly floured surface. Use a floured rolling pin to roll out the dough and then cut into birds or other desired holiday shapes.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes until crisp around the edge. Let cool before decorating
