Gingerbread Cut-out Cookies

Ingredients

  • 6.5 cups flour
  • 2TB cinnamon
  • 2TB ground ginger
  • 1.5 tsp baking soda
  • 1.5 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1.5 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 3 tsp vanilla

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cinnamon, ginger, baking soda, cloves, salt, and nutmeg. Set aside
  2. In a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, beat the butter and sugar together for 2 minutes on med. speed until light and fluffy
  3. Add in eggs, molasses, and vanilla beat on med. speed until combined.
  4. Reduce speed and add in the flour mixture just until combined
  5. Divide dough into 2 portions, and plastic wrap, chill for 2 hours or overnight
  6. Heat oven to 350 degrees, and line baking sheet with parchment
  7. Unwrap the dough and place it on a lightly floured surface. Use a floured rolling pin to roll out the dough and then cut into birds or other desired holiday shapes.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes until crisp around the edge. Let cool before decorating
